BATAVIA TWP. — Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilber confirmed one person was injured and three houses were damaged in an overnight fire that started in a garage on Garfield Road in Batavia Township.
The Bronson Fire Department was dispatched with manpower from the Coldwater Fire Department just before 11 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, and arrived to find the garage fully engulfed.
Heavy smoke poured from the eaves of the home and two nearby homes suffered damage from the intense heat, Wilber said.
A neighbor was treated by LifeCare EMS for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.
Wilber estimated the damage to the initial home at $90,000 with $15,000 in damage to one of the neighboring homes and $3,500 in damage to a third home.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined and remains under investigation.
Other mutual aid was provided by the Union City Fire Department and Lakeland Fire Department.
