BATAVIA, IL — Police received “several” reports of burglaries to unlocked cars Thursday in the northwest and southwest residential areas of Batavia, officials said.
The incidents happened early in the morning in the 0-99 blocks of North Mallory Avenue and South Mallory Avenue as well as the 200 block of Republic Road in Batavia. Police said based on evidence, the burglaries most likely occurred between 4-5 a.m.
Officers also received delayed reports of the “suspicious circumstances” in the nearby Stonefield subdivision where car alarms went off early in the morning and footprints were found in the snow.

Police said they’re pursuing “a number of leads” in Thursday’s incidents.
Detectives are asking residents in the area with surveillance and doorbell cameras to check their feed and call the police department, at 630-454-2500, if they have potential footage of suspects.

In light of the reports Thursday, police provided a few tips to help residents avoid having their cars burglarized.
- Citizens are strongly encouraged to keep their vehicles locked at all times.
- Please remove all valuables from your vehicle, including car and house keys and garage door openers. Suspects involved in these burglaries are known to utilize garage door openers to enter victims’ garages and residences.
- Please call 911 immediately to report any suspicious activity that you may see in your neighborhood.
