BATAVIA, IL — A 59-year-old Batavia who crashed into a squad car Dec. 24 is facing six charges, including driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.
Several officers were gathered at the intersection of West Fabyan Parkway and Western Avenue at about 5:09 p.m. on Christmas Eve to investigate a crash that had occurred. Police used their squad cars with activated emergency lights to protect the scene and alert traffic of the hazard.
During the investigation, another car, a white 2002 Chevy Tahoe, was driving east on Fabyan Parkway when it failed to yield to emergency vehicles and crashed into a squad car “at a high rate of speed,” officials said. The officer standing outside the car was “narrowly missed” by the Chevy.

The squad car sustained heavy damage to its rear bumper and rear hatch, and the Chevy was heavily damaged in the front, according to police. No one was injured in the crash.
The SUV proceeded to drive north on Western Avenue at low speeds, eventually turning into a nearby cul-de-sac where it was stopped by Batavia and Geneva officers.

Officers said they began investigating the second crash after everyone was accounted for and identified the offending driver as Samuel Kramer, of the 800 block of North Forest Avenue.
In addition to some petty and business citations, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the following charges against the man:
- 2 counts driving under the influence
- Reckless driving
- Leaving the scene of a property damage accident
- Attempt to Flee/Elude Peace Officer
- Fail to Give Aid or Information After Crash
